Taipei Economic & Cultural Office Exhibit July 2017

I was honored to have one of my Chinese calligraphy paintings, “In the Gentle Wind Bamboo Sings by Itself,” accepted in to the Exhibit of Calligraphy and Paintings at the Taipei Economic & Cultural Center in Los Angeles in July 2017.  It is a distinction to have a Chinese calligraphy created by a Westerner accepted by the Asian community, as they are very critical of the way in which this 2,000 year old artistic tradition is executed.

Portia La Touche will be the new Artist in Residence at Villa Musica featuring her exhibit of Contemporary Chinese Brush Paintings. Villa Musica is a non-profit musical academy, located in old Sorrento Valley, in San Diego. The exhibit is open to the public and will be up for Feb. and March, 2015. The opening reception is Sunday, Feb. 8, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. and will include a musical performance by Villa Musica musicians as well as a performance piece by Portia with Chinese Dancing Brushes and Villa Musica music.

Portia Wins Prize at 2014 AACBP Exhibit

Portia’s painting “Magenta Magic” has won 2nd Prize in the Flower & Bird category at the 2014 American Artists of Chinese Brush Painting Exhibit. Jack Liang, a Chinese Brush Painter, calligrapher and seal carver, was the independent judge. The inspiration for this simple, elegant painting came from Chinese Brush Painter Diana Wong and her in-depth study of phalaenopsis or moth orchid.
